All about the 3 Days Aberdare National Park.

Choose your Pick-up Location:

Nairobi: Ideal for those staying in the Kenyan capital.
Naivasha: Perfect for travelers already exploring the Naivasha area. (Pick up time may vary slightly depending on location within Naivasha.)
Itinerary (Start time depends on pick-up location):

Early Morning (6:00 AM): Depart from your chosen pick-up location (Nairobi or Naivasha) after a quick breakfast (not included). Enjoy the scenic drive through the Kenyan countryside as the sun rises. (Approximately 2-hour drive from Nairobi, less from Naivasha)
Mid-Morning (8:00 AM – 8:30 AM): Arrive at Elephant Hills and be greeted by friendly staff. Check into a secure storage area for your belongings if not camping.
Morning (9:00 AM): Meet your experienced park ranger and discuss the different hiking trails available. Choose the one that best suits your fitness level and desired challenge. Options may range from scenic beginner-friendly paths to more strenuous hikes with breathtaking vistas.
Morning – Afternoon (9:30 AM – 3:00 PM): Embark on your guided hike, immersing yourself in the stunning landscapes of Elephant Hills. Explore diverse terrain, witness a variety of flora and fauna, and keep your eyes peeled for interesting wildlife sightings like iconic elephants, powerful buffalo, and maybe even elusive leopards or graceful primates depending on your chosen trail.
Breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the tranquility of nature.
Lunch (12:00 PM): Savor a delicious picnic lunch (included) surrounded by the stunning scenery, refueling for the remainder of your hike.
Late Afternoon (3:00 PM): Return from your invigorating hike, feeling refreshed and accomplished. Enjoy some free time to relax at the park (depending on time) or browse the park shop for souvenirs (optional).
Early Evening (4:00 PM): Begin the scenic drive back to your chosen drop-off location (Nairobi or Naivasha), reliving the day’s adventures.
Evening (6:00 PM – 7:00 PM): Arrive back at your pick-up location, ready to share your stories and photos with friends and family.

Highlights: dense rainforest & bamboo, waterfalls, mountain scenery, rare forest animals, night animal viewing (if staying at The Ark or Treetops).

  1. Day 1 Nairobi → Aberdare | Afternoon Viewing

    • 7:00 AM – Pick up from your Nairobi hotel/airport and depart north via the Thika Superhighway.
    • Enjoy scenic views of tea and coffee plantations.
    • 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Arrive at Aberdare Country Club (the park’s base point).
    • Have lunch here and check in procedures.
    • After lunch:
    • Transfer to The Ark Lodge (or Treetops Lodge) inside the park.
    • These lodges overlook floodlit waterholes where animals come to drink at night.
    • Spend the afternoon & evening watching wildlife like elephants, buffalo, giant forest hog, hyenas, leopards, and bushbuck from the lodge’s decks.
    • Dinner & overnight at The Ark or Treetops.

  2. Day 2 Full Day in Aberdare

    • Early breakfast.
    • Head out for a full day game drive & exploration in the park’s higher moorland and waterfalls.
    • Visit Chania Falls, Karuru Falls, and Gura Falls, some of Kenya’s most beautiful.
    • Enjoy picnic lunch at one of the designated sites.
    • Game viewing: Look for elephants, buffalo, bushbuck, black rhino, waterbuck, duikers, and if you’re lucky — the rare bongo antelope or leopard.
    • Return to The Ark/Treetops or back to Aberdare Country Club for dinner & overnight.

  3. Day 3 Aberdare → Nairobi

    • Optional morning walk around the country club’s grounds (often good for birding & colobus monkeys).
    • Breakfast, check out, and drive back to Nairobi.
    • Optional stop at Sagana or Blue Post waterfalls en route.
    • Arrive in Nairobi by early afternoon (~2:00–3:00 PM).

  4. Optional Add‑Ons Optional Add‑Ons

    • Trout fishing (permit required).
    • Hike in the moorlands or bamboo forest.
    • Continue to Mt. Kenya or Ol Pejeta after Aberdare.
